The Board of Governors of the American Musical Instrument Society designated Robert M. Rosenbaum the recipient of the Curt Sachs Award for the year 1987 in grateful recognition of his achievements as collector, connoisseur, and a founder, the first President, and a Governor of the American Musical Instrument Society; in acknowledgement of the preeminence of the Rosenbaum Family Collection; in appreciation of the generosity with which he has shared his knowledge and collection with musicians, builders, scholars, collectors, and with the general public through loans for performance, recording, and exhibition, with uncompromising concern for documentation and conservation; and in recognition of his support and encouragement of the study of musical instruments.
