The Curt Sachs Award 1989
Phillip Taylor Young, Jr.
The Board of Governors of the American Musical Instrument Society
designated Phillip Taylor Young, Jr. the recipient of the Curt Sachs
Award for the year 1989 in recognition of his eminence and achievements
as scholar, exhibitor, collector, educator, and Governor of the
American Musical Instrument Society, and in acknowledgement that
his book, 2500 Historical Woodwind Instruments, as well as
his many articles about woodwind makers in the Journal of the
American Musical Instrument Society, The Galpin Society Journal,
The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and The
New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments, are primary sources
of information for those who study musical instruments, and that
his exhibition catalogs, The Look of Music and Loan Exhibition
of Historical Double Reed Instruments, as well as his contribution
to A Survey of Musical Instrument Collections in the United States
and Canada, have increased awareness of and interest in the
study of historical musical instruments.
