The Board of Governors of the American Musical Instrument Society designated Edmund Addison Bowles the recipient of the Curt Sachs Award for the year 1997 in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the study of musical iconography, performance practices, the history of percussion instruments, and the use of technology in the service of the arts and humanities.
